The press conference was introduced by APSL director Prof. Gladys Tang, who explained the history and aims of the APSL program. This was followed by a word from APSL regional manager Prof. James Woodward, who talked to the press about his work promoting sign language research in Asia. APSL graduates Kenny Chu, Laura Lesmana Wijaya, and K.K. Brayan Susantha then shared their experiences studying in the program and their plans for the future. Finally, the press had an opportunity to speak to the graduates and Prof. Gladys Tang and ask further questions about the program, their study experiences and the situation of deaf education in their own countries. Please click here for more details. 日期: 2013 年 10 月 15 日 Postgraduate Scholarship for Sign Language Interpretation (手語傳譯研究生獎學金)Through the Office of Institutional Advancement at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies has received a donation to establish a scholarship at CUHK to support a graduate of the university in pursuing overseas postgraduate studies in sign language interpretation. Two 1976 Chung Chi graduates CUHK have kindly donated HK$760,000 in order to grant one scholarship to support a CUHK graduate to pursue overseas postgraduate training in sign interpretation. The Centre wishes that through this scholarship scheme, a committed person can be identified and supported to receive professional sign language interpretation training at the master"s level in order to support the long-term development of Sign Language Interpretation in Hong Kong and/or Mainland China. Opening remarks were given by Prof. James Woodward and Prof. Gladys Tang. This was followed by a recorded message of congratulations and encouragement from regional director of the World Federation of the Deaf Regional Secretariat for Asia and the Pacific, Mr. Ichiro Miyamoto. Additionally, Deaf teachers from abroad who could not attend the event, Dr. David McKee, Prof. Gaurav Mathur, Mr. Benjamin Lewis and Ms. Peoungpaka Janyawong, delivered their congratulatory messages to the students through video. To conclude the ceremony, certificates were presented to the graduates by Dr. Felix Sze of the Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies along with an honorary guest from the Nippon Foundation, Ms. Eriko Takahashi. In addition to the graduates from the higher diploma program, students who had completed foundational diplomas were also presented with certificates.
We would like to extend our congratulations to the first graduating class of the Asia Pacific Sign Linguistics Research and Training Program, who have received the Higher Diploma in Sign Linguistics.
Adhi Kusumo Bharoto, Kenny Kwan Ngai Chu, as well as Laura Lesmana Wijaya received special recognition for their outstanding academic performance.
