"Hong Kong Sign Language" Multimedia Textbook Series

Since 2005, Hong Kong Sign Language courses have been offered under the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages to undergraduates of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The courses are taught by deaf teachers who are also researchers at the Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies trained in sign linguistics and sign language teaching under the Asia Pacific Sign Linguistics and Research Training (APSL) Program. After years of evaluation of teaching outcomes and revision of teaching materials, the Centre in 2008 published its first "Hong Kong Sign Language" multimedia textbook. The materials are written by this team of deaf researchers and teachers together with the trainers of the APSL Program. The level 1 consists of 10 lessons. Each lesson is composed of various sections, including "Dialogue”, "Grammar”, "Exercise”, "Vocabulary”, etc., and also a special section introducing Deaf Culture to students. The level 2 and 3 materials are under review and will be published soon.
