Programme objectives:
The objectives of this programme are to:
a. offer deaf students academically rigorous training in English literacy skills;
b. develop students’ skills in using English for communicational purposes; and
c. prepare students for more advanced English texts.
Programme learning outcomes:
Upon completion of this programme, students are expected to be able to:
- accurately use a broad range of English vocabulary and grammatical structures to express themselves in most common communicative situations;
- accurately use a variety of basic English sentence structures to carry out a variety of written communicative tasks including introducing oneself, requesting information, giving descriptions and expressing their opinions;
- independently read and clearly comprehend adapted English texts related to current events and news;
- write summaries and respond to guiding questions related to their readings in clear, comprehensible English.

Entry requirement:
- Applicants should have completed Form 3 or obtained equivalent qualifications (e.g. grade 9 in the US Education system);
- applicants will be required to participate in an interview during which their language abilities will be profiled (including sign language, written English and written language of the applicant’s home country);and
- mature applicants at the age of 21 or above who do not meet the above minimum admission requirements but possess a demonstrated ability (e.g. good presentation skills and communication ability in sign language and/or written language) to pursue the programme are eligible to apply for admission.
