Welcome to the Hong Kong Sign Language Corpus
The Hong Kong Sign Language Corpus (HKSL Corpus) is an online platform to archive signing data provided by Deaf signers in Hong Kong. These data were collected through collaboration between Deaf and hearing researchers at the Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies (CSLDS), with funding support from the Research Grants Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China (Project No. CUHK 450513, Project Title "A Reference Grammar of Hong Kong Sign Language"). The corpus contains different types of data, including narratives elicited by animated cartoons and picture books, naturalistic data from free conversations, and experimental data from different elicitation materials. All types of data contain video recordings with multiple synchronized video cameras and annotations created by ELAN (https://tla.mpi.nl/tools/tla-tools/elan/, Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, The Language Archive, Nijmegen, The Netherlands; Crasborn & Sloetjes, 2008).
The HKSL Corpus is open to the public. It serves as a data pool for sign language researchers, HKSL instructors, HKSL learners and HKSL interpreters, who can use this platform to search for abundant examples of HKSL structures or vocabularies in different contexts and adopt them for their professional and academic purposes.
We will continue to expand the corpus and to install more functions to facilitate viewing and searching of HKSL data. Due to privacy reasons, some materials in the corpus are only accessible to registered users.
