Mr. Lai (Billy, Deaf) graduated from the Sign Bilingualism and Co-enrollment Program. He joined the Centre for Sign Linguistics and Deaf Studies (hereinafter "the Center") as a part-time language research intern in August 2025. His specific involvement and assistance were in the project of the Hearing Adults’ HKSL Corpus. In this project, his main task was to transcribe Hong Kong Sign Language data of hearing adults using the ELAN software.
Mr. Lai comes from a hearing family and is the only deaf person in his family. He hopes that as sign language research continues to progress, society will increasingly recognize the existence of Hong Kong Sign Language, allowing more people to have the opportunity to learn it, thereby further reducing the gap between hearing and deaf people.
