The current study (in collaboration with Quadros) investigates properties of
International Sign and proposes that International Sign is a bona fide language that
is shared by deaf sign language users globally and that there is such a continuum
between cross-signing (see e.g. Byun et al 2018, Zeshan 2015) and International
Sign Language (ISL) as an autonomous language.

The presentation is divided into four parts: language properties of ISL (based on
corpus-based data), emergence and conventionalization of ISL, comparison
between ISL and established national sign languages and sociolinguistic
globalization of multilingualism in sense of Boomaert 2010.
