The Deaf Student Support Program at Griffith University has been in existence for over 36 years and has been a leader in Higher education Supports for Deaf and hard of hearing students within the southern hemisphere for just as long. Removing barriers for deaf and or hard of hearing students is not always straightforward. Cathy and Riona will explain the history and environment currently in Australia and the importance of supports and challenges in arranging Interpreting support for students studying at University. The impacts of COVID and the move to online training options in HE across the world have created unique challenges for students and some of these challenges are unique to the provision of sign language support.
You will hear student experiences and stories and as Cathy and Riona have lived experiences as Deaf persons they share from this experience.
